Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. PSALM 61:1-4
There are times in our work lives when we just really need help. We might be really discouraged. We might be totally stressed out. We might be trying to meet impossible deadlines. We might be in the middle of conflict with supervisors. We might be facing opposition from coworkers. It doesn’t matter what the problem is, Psalm 61:1-4 reminds us that we have access to God’s 911 system anywhere, anytime.
As he wrote these verses, David’s heart was growing faint. He was going down. If the paramedics didn’t get there in the next few minutes, he would be history. It was at that point that he called for help, knowing that God—his Refuge and Strong Tower—would hear and answer.
Some days at work beat us up so badly and confuse us so terribly that we feel as if we’re about to drown. We’re desperate for someone to rescue us, to shelter us, to set us on high ground. When we have an automobile accident, we automatically call 911—it’s practically second nature to us. But somehow we forget that God also has a 911 system—prayer—that is available 24/7. And the best part of it is that we don’t have to have a cell phone or be near a pay phone to reach Him. He’ll hear us from anywhere, even from the ends of the earth.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed? Cry out to your Refuge and Strong Tower. He will hear and answer.
