Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. PSALM 144:1
Most organizations spend money to train their people. Whether it is computer training for office assistants or an MBA program for senior executives, companies realize the need for great training. Spending on training continues to escalate, and many predict that the Internet will cause it to grow well into the future.
David was in training as well. He was training for his future line of work— being king. His was as thorough a program as you could want. It was custom- designed for him, his needs, and his future role. His Teacher was the best in the business, and He is still teaching today. In fact, He’s available if you are willing. He’s ready to teach you to have “hands for war” and “fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1).
Winning wars was crucial for kings. It was how they maintained and eventually expanded their kingdoms. In David’s day, if you could not win a war, you were doomed as a king. The wars we fight today are the big objectives that we keep in front of us to keep our lives progressing forward. In God’s training program, you will learn the strategy that you need to be victorious in the wars in your life.
Wars are comprised of battles in much the same way that hands are comprised of fingers. In God’s training program, you will not only learn strategy, but you’ll also be taught the tactical execution to win the battles—those tiny skirmishes that can undermine your footing and get you off balance. You will leave this program on the sure footing of the Rock.
Your foundation will be built on the Rock, the Lord. He knows the smallest details of your life, and He cares enough to help you with them. He is also very interested in the wars you are fighting, and He knows the strategies for winning them. He is a solid foundation to build your life upon, and He will rigorously and faithfully train you. All you have to do is ask.
